Meet the Staff

Higher Standards

Our experienced, trained and nurturing staff exceeds Colorado’s preschool standards. Our staff-to-child ratio surpasses the Colorado minimum standards.

Through careful observation and interactions, our teachers cultivate and guide each child’s cognitive, emotional, social, moral and physical growth. We strive to provide a healthy, nurturing, peaceful and respectful environment that guides our children each day.

Rachel SchaubRachel Schaub

Director, Early Childhood Educator

Hello! My name is Rachel Schaub and I am very happy to be the Director of Aspen Grove Community Preschool! I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. I attended college at the University of Missouri-Columbia where I received my BA in Vocal Music. After my undergraduate work, my husband, Ryan, and I lived in a few different places: Grand Lake, CO, Vermont, Walden, CO, and finally here to Nederland. We have lived here since 2004 and bought a home in 2007. We enjoy being a part of this special mountain community. In 2006, I graduated from the University of Colorado-Denver with an MA in Educational Psychology and an Early Childhood Education teaching license.

I believe that children are capable of directing their own learning and that they should have a space in which to learn that is safe, loving, and lets them express themselves. I believe that family and community play an integral role in the education of our children. I believe in the power of nature and the experience it gives all of us. That’s part of the reason we choose to live in this wonderful place. My husband, daughter, and I enjoy hiking, camping, backpacking, and seeing live music together. We spend a lot of time with our two dogs and two cats and also enjoying the company of good friends.
I am looking forward to another fun and challenging year at Aspen Grove Community Preschool and also to getting to know all of you. Thanks!

Lead Teacher, Early Childhood Educator

HI, my name is Griffin McKeague and I am thrilled to be teaching here at Aspen Grove! I am originally from Colorado, but grew up in Northampton, MA, a college town in Western Massachusetts. I attended the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter High School my freshman and sophomore year with a major in theater and a focus on creating theater for, and teaching theater to, children. I was not thriving in a High School environment however, so when I was 16 I took my placement tests and began attending Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, MA for Early Childhood Education. I received an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and decided to take a break from school to travel, with my now husband, around the East cost and then out to Colorado, which I have always considered home. We found Nederland in 2008 and immediately fell in love. We moved back east briefly in 2009 and missed Nederland so much that we moved right back and settled down. We now have a three year old daughter, Niya and an almost one year old dog named Pooh Bear, and are living happily in Old Town. After having my daughter I went back to school and have steadily been working on getting my Bachelors in ECE. I plan to finish my degree through Naropa University within the next few years. I have taught children’s theater classes and children’s cooking classes as well as teaching in preschools in MA, and the Little Bear School here in Nederland. Caring for and teaching children has always been my main passion, so my “free time” is mainly spent playing with my wonderful daughter who loves to use her imagination and make up games. My husband, daughter, and I also love to go camping and hiking and to explore our beautiful locals forests, play games together, cook and bake (my other passion), and read. I look forward to being a teacher here at Aspen Grove for a very long time, and I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Mike Sivcovich

Lead Teacher, Early Childhood Educator

Hello! My name is Michael and I have been teaching at Aspen Grove for nearly a year. After moving to Nederland from St. Louis and a 5 year stint in 4th and 5th grade, we came to Aspen Grove because the students drove the curriculum and it offered me a chance to apply my training in a new way. I look forward to preparing students to engage in their surrounding and experiencing fun and exciting adventures along side them! My philosophy of teaching boils down to “just steer the ship.” Every person is born who they are with their little personalities and my job is to help them fully realize their self worth, while preparing them for the next step in life. All I do is just steer the ship!

Teacher Assistant, Early Childhood Educator

My name is Jennifer Ousley and I am proud to work at Aspen Grove Community Preschool! I grew up in Jamestown, Colorado until 6th grade when I moved here to town and attended Nederland Middle Senior High School. I truly enjoyed growing up in such a wonderful place and graduated in 2007. I have been working and taking care of families in Nederland for about 10 years now. After living in Boulder for a few years, I decided to move back to Nederland. I was a teacher at The Little Bear School before Aspen Grove and enjoy teaching this age group very much. I love to go on hikes, ride my bike, hula hoop, cook, sing and play guitar. I encourage children to be creative, play and just be themselves! I believe children grow and learn with the help of teachers, families, and their fellow peers each and every day!
