Director, Early Childhood Educator
Hello! My name is Rachel Schaub and I am very happy to be the Director of Aspen Grove Community Preschool! I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. I attended college at the University of Missouri-Columbia where I received my BA in Vocal Music. After my undergraduate work, my husband, Ryan, and I lived in a few different places: Grand Lake, CO, Vermont, Walden, CO, and finally here to Nederland. We have lived here since 2004 and bought a home in 2007. We enjoy being a part of this special mountain community. In 2006, I graduated from the University of Colorado-Denver with an MA in Educational Psychology and an Early Childhood Education teaching license.
I believe that children are capable of directing their own learning and that they should have a space in which to learn that is safe, loving, and lets them express themselves. I believe that family and community play an integral role in the education of our children. I believe in the power of nature and the experience it gives all of us. That’s part of the reason we choose to live in this wonderful place. My husband, daughter, and I enjoy hiking, camping, backpacking, and seeing live music together. We spend a lot of time with our two dogs and two cats and also enjoying the company of good friends. I am looking forward to another fun and challenging year at Aspen Grove Community Preschool and also to getting to know all of you. Thanks!
Assistant Director, Early Childhood Educator
Hi, my name is Griffin McKeague. I have been a lead teacher at Aspen Grove Preschool since 2013, and am now excited to take on the role of Assistant Director. I deeply appreciate being able to work in such a wonderful environment with such amazing children and families! Born in Colorado, I spent my childhood growing up in Western Massachusetts in a small town surrounded by both farm country and big cities. I have always loved literature and theater, and I attended The Pioneer Valley School of the Performing Arts for my high school education while teaching children’s theater and children’s cooking classes through the summers. Early Childhood Education has been my lifelong passion and at the age of 16 I began taking college courses in ECE. I found my way back to Colorado in 2008, and after a few indecisive years decided to make Nederland my permanent home. I have lived here steadily since 2011, with my wonderful husband, our now 6 year old daughter, Niya, who gives me neverending joy, and a big silly dog named Pooh Bear. In my free time I love to bake, read, hike, and play games with my family!
Pre-K Teacher, Teacher Assistant
Hi, my name is Cynthia Johnson. I have been working at Aspen Grove Community Preschool in Nederland, CO since September 2016 as a Teacher Assistant. I grew up in Grayslake, IL. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Western Illinois University. I taught first and third grades during my nineteen years teaching for the Grayslake School District. I earned a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia College in River Forest, IL.
After being a stay at home mom for five years, my husband and I purchased our own business in Boulder Junction, WI. We owned and managed the Boulder Bear Motor Lodge for ten years. In 2014, I substituted preschool through third grades in Gurnee, IL. In June 2016 I moved to Nederland, CO with my husband, son, and daugther-in-law. Our daughter still lives in Wisconsin working and completing her internship. My husband and I became proud grandparents to a beautiful girl in December 2014.
I was hired as a Teacher Assistant for Aspen Grove Preschool shortly after moving to Nederland and have been teaching here since. I thoroughly enjoy teaching the children and working with the staff at Aspen Grove.
Teacher Assistant[coming soon]
Hello! My name is Michael and I have been teaching at Aspen Grove for nearly a year. After moving to Nederland from St. Louis and a 5 year stint in 4th and 5th grade, we came to Aspen Grove because the students drove the curriculum and it offered me a chance to apply my training in a new way. I look forward to preparing students to engage in their surrounding and experiencing fun and exciting adventures along side them! My philosophy of teaching boils down to “just steer the ship.” Every person is born who they are with their little personalities and my job is to help them fully realize their self worth, while preparing them for the next step in life. All I do is just steer the ship!
Hi, my name is Jennifer Ousley and I am proud to work at Aspen Grove Community Preschool! I grew up in Jamestown, Colorado until 6th grade when I moved here to town and attended Nederland Middle Senior High School. I truly enjoyed growing up in such a wonderful place and graduated in 2007. I have been working and taking care of families in Nederland for about 10 years now. After living in Boulder for a few years, I decided to move back to Nederland. I was a teacher at The Little Bear School before Aspen Grove and enjoy teaching this age group very much. I love to go on hikes, ride my bike, hula hoop, cook, sing and play guitar. I encourage children to be creative, play and just be themselves! I believe children grow and learn with the help of teachers, families, and their fellow peers each and every day!
